• Joia Hansen is a multi-modal music maniac. As a seasoned music theorist, pianist, producer, audio engineer, and DJ, he has a knack for finding ways to integrate different musical styles and forms into the creation of novel songs. Based in Denver, CO, he owns and operates his own studio out of which he has polished dozens of tracks and a few medium-sized projects, and where he continues to help other artists in the community do the same. He is particularly interested in the music of the African Diaspora–jazz, blues, soul, funk, Afro, gospel, hip hop, disco–and, in his own work, has a penchant for fusing it with bass, glitch, house, and other forms of EDM.

  • Joia has been playing piano since 2006, producing music digitally since 2010, DJ-ing since 2016, and engineering since 2020. His entire music catalogue, going back to 2010, can be found on Soundcloud, while all the most recent and professionally engineered songs and projects can be found on all popular streaming platforms. Though he has music under a few different monikers, all of his most recent publications can be found under Spru. The main collaborative project he is currently involved in is H&H, an experimental funk-driven EDM project with long-time friend and collaborator Colin Holmes.

  • As a music educator, his goal is to develop meaningful and long-lasting relationships with his students, and apply the full body of his knowledge, skill, and experience to help them refine and cultivate their artistic gifts. His hope is to see all his students blossom into magnanimous creatives with their own unique style, message and approach to music.

As a producer and engineer, his goal is to provide unbeatable audio services that may allow for fellow musicians and vocalists to bring their songs to completion, and/or take the next tangible step in their music journey. Though his primary clientele work with him in his home studio, he is also open to working in other professional audio environments.

  • When it comes to music,  Joia places extraordinary value on synthesis and integration. According to his understanding, great art often comes about as a result of novel combinations of ideas, methods and styles of seemingly disparate or unrelated traditions. He also places great emphasis on multi-modal “fluency.” An example of this is an artist who is able to produce and play an instrument, or is knowledgeable in basic audio engineering and production. The value in being “multi-modal” is that one’s creative impulse is increasingly more likely to be uniquely personalized if it can be expressed in more than one way. As such, what sets him apart from many other music teachers and educational programs is the precious opportunity–if desired–to develop training in multiple musical modalities.

He currently has a roster of more than five dedicated students who have been training in both traditional piano performance and digital music production for the last few years.
